A Greenspan put is a name that implies a trading strategy of hedging against price risk. This phrase was popular during the 1990s and 2000s as a result of certain policies implemented by Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan during that time. Greenspan was chairman from 1987 to 2006. Throughout his tenure he attempted to help support the U.S. economy by actively using the federal funds rate as a lever for change.
